The New Zealand Fashion Museum is the first digital museum that provides a platform and umbrella for all things fashion in Aotearoa (New Zealand). With no fixed physical location or collection its activities and stories are developed in response to the concerns of the day and the questions and needs of its audiences. Our primary source for all content is the community which makes for a collaborative and multi-vocal museum model bringing together objects and knowledge held by individuals and by working with institutions like libraries, universities, and museums to share their collections, archives, and even their spaces.
For the GFA24, we are organised an ‘Open Day,’ inviting all who wish to engage with how we do our mahi (work), to come and experience it firsthand and in a real space. We have taken the opportunity of the Assembly to share the decolonising kaupapa (principles) of our museum model, with a local audience and the international GFA audience.
