A speculative fiction workshop exploring an alternate world where business size is capped preventing the concentration of corporate power.
This speculative workshop is based on the Fashion Fictions model which brings people together to engage with “fictional visions of alternative fashion cultures and systems.” For our GFA24 hosting programme, we bring together sustainable footwear pioneers to explore a parallel fictional world where business size is capped leading to the decentralisation of the footwear industry.
The aim is to demonstrate the consequences of concentrated corporate power and share different perspectives on what a radically different footwear production system could look like. One where most shoes are not made from plastic in Asia by underpaid workers at the ends of long opaque supply chains. And where footwear industry ownership is not dominated by giant asset managers, private equity, and other forms of big finance.
